Project:
American Sign Language Learning Experience Collection

Purpose:  You agree to take part in the Data Collection under this agreement for the purpose of (1) providing insight into the learning process of ASL and clarifying the misconceptions commonly made by those who are either unfamiliar with the language or with the ASL community 2) assisting in researching, analyzing, and improving the usability of current and proposed products and services involving recognition, translation, interpretation, and analysis of sign language and (3) facilitating the development of ASL-based devices with an improved understanding of the general public's current demands.

Procedure:  You will be asked a series of questions about the process of learning ASL and your experience with its expectations versus reality. We ask that you answer as in-depth and candidly as you are able to about your personal experiences.

Benefit: There is no direct benefit to you by participating. However, the project may help us discover ways to alter existing ASL products to better assist the community who would be using them. This project may also help us discover incorrect data or assumptions potentially being used by our organizations currently regarding ASL that requires correction.

Risks and Discomfort: The risks involved are no greater than those involved in daily activities such as using a phone.  

Rights: You have rights as a volunteer. Your participation in this effort is voluntary. You do not have to be in this effort if you don’t want to participate. You have the right to change your mind and remove yourself from the effort at any time without giving any reason, and without penalty.

Confidentiality, sharing and publication: 
All the information gathered during this project will remain confidential within the limits established by the law. Data will be used for research purposes in order to answer to the scientific objectives of the project described in this information and consent form. Data of this project can be published in scientific reviews or shared with other people during scientific discussions.
